Modular Homes Vs. Mobile Homes

There is a common misconception that the terms mobile home, modular home and manufactured home can all be used interchangeably. This is not the case.

Freeport Homes is a modular home builder. We build custom modular homes to strict residential business standards for our clients.

Modular Homes

Modular homes are built in a factory. These homes are constructed similar to traditional site-built constructed homes. A modular home must be placed on a permanent foundation such as a crawlspace or basement. Freeport-built modular homes are fully customizable. Once built and placed on the foundation, they are indistinguishable from their traditionally-built counterparts.

Mobile / Manufactured Homes

A manufactured home, though often referred to as a mobile home, is a home built in a factory on a permanent chassis. Manufactured homes are constructed in pieces and then transported to the land they will be placed on and then the home’s sections are ‘stitched’ together by a professional set crew. Manufactured homes are either temporarily set (such as in a mobile home park) or permanently set (on a foundation).
